The Killing Fields & S-21

The Khmer Rouge, in the 1970’s, arrested and eventually executed anyone it considered a threat to its totalitarian power. Some estimates suggest up to 2 million perished under the regime - almost ¼ of the population. Their bodies were buried unceremoniously in mass graves that dot the Cambodia countryside. Mekong Island

Mekong Island (Koh Dach) is an island 15km north of Phnom Penh on the Mekong River. There are 2 reasons to visit this island - for the beach, or to check out the handicrafts of local artisans. The beach is very popular with locals on the weekends but during the week you will have the run of the place.


Oudong Mountain

Oudong is a town in Cambodia, situated in the north-western part of Kampong, Speu Province. The town is located at the foothill of the mountain Phnom Udong. There are ancient historical temples on the top of the mountain. Oudong is a monumental necropolis of royalty for the past kings of Cambodia. Legend has it that in the Arthross Temple, the Buddha located here faces north instead of the traditional direction of east, symbolizing a testimony to the strength and power of the ancient Khmer kingdom.
